My wife is threatening to leave me if I don’t stop drinking

. My work is stressful and at the end of the week I want to forget about everything and spend time with my friends at a tavern.

However, I always end up drinking too much and spend most of my money on alcohol. I want to cut down, but I don’t know how.

I am also afraid of losing my friends.

Alcohol addiction is a social disease that plagues our society.

A lot of men won’t admit to the problem and we live in a society where if you tell someone ‘I was so drunk last night, I got a blackout’, they are envious and ask you, ‘why didn’t you invite me’.

I understand that it is difficult to cut down drinking as it part and parcel of your social life, but if hinders on you being a provider and causes fights with your spouse, you need to look into getting help.

You can also call the national helpline of Alcoholics Anonymous and ask for their nearest centre, 0861 435 722.
