The Big Brother Experience

The time has come yet again when viewers all over Africa will spend countless hours glued to their screen for another interesting season of Big Brother  StarGame.

BB StarGame contestants will endure 91 days locked up in the Big Brother house. All participating for the chance to get their hands all over the 300 00 US dollars prize.

As is Big Brother tradition, before the launch of the show, they take a couple of journalists into the house.

When I received the invite to enter the house, after years of watching Big Brother with fascination , I couldn’t say no.

So I decided to relinquish my right to privacy for 24 hours and to spend exactly 1440 minutes (Trust me, I was counting) without my Blackberry and enter the house where Big Brother was always watching.

With much excitement we entered the house,  where we were first given a full tour of the humble abode. The first thing they mentioned was that there are cameras all over the house including the toilets, which is a bit intimidating.

According to the folks at Big Brother, the monitors for the toilets are covered and they only look at them if they see two people entering the toilet at the same time.

After the tour, it was time for a challenge, like the real housemates we were given a task to play.

The real challenge though,  was being stuck with people you have never met in your life for 24 hours.  What made it easier though is that these were people all in the same industry, so we related on a certain level. But for the real housemate’s contestants it will be a bit difficult as they will be paired with people that they don’t have anything in common with.

This season of Big Brother looks like the recipe for great television viewing. The good people at Big Brother have a star- studded array of contestants this year from rappers to socialites.

The celebs include stylish entertainer, stand-up comedian and television pro DKB from Ghana (26) talented rap icon Prezzo from Kenya (32) Award-winning songstress Lady May from Namibia (25) and our own socialite and model turned business woman Babalwa Mneno amongst the few.

It is without doubt that this season of Big Brother is the most anticipated by far, judging by the response that Mnet received from viewers and fans.

“It’s super to see the high level of interaction STARGAME is getting from fans, media and viewers. The guessing around who the housemates will be; people trying to work out what Biggie is planning; the rumors and the speculation; it all adds to the excitement …” says Mnet Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi

The show launches on Sunday May 6 on DStv channel 198 at 20:00.
