The single mother was not afraid of taking on the tsotsi. Who would win?

They could see a muscle twitching in her jaw, and a rapid pulse in her throat. The boys had no idea what was going to happen next, but they knew only one thing – there was going to be big trouble, and somebody was going to get hurt, most likely their Ma.

Miranda took off the white apron that she was wearing and threw it on the sofa. She took a deep breath and said, “You are going to show me where this Bra Tiger is.” “But Ma . . . you can’t go there. He’s the boss of the township and he’s very dangerous,” the older boy said, fearing for his mother’s life. “I am your mother and I raised you single handedly. I will never allow any person to take advantage of you,” she said.

Wearing a blue tracksuit and white takkies, she burst out of the house and started walking towards the Indian supermarket. Her two children followed behind her timidly. News that a single mother was going to confront the most feared tsotsi in the township spread like wildfire.
