Three people were arrested in Salvokop, Pretoria on Monday in connection with copper theft, Gauteng police said.

The group was responsible for delivering stolen copper cables to four others who were arrested in Cullinan last week, Captain Pinky Tsinyane said.

It was believed the three were working for Spoornet.

"They access it [copper] because they are working there as technical workers and assess the cables," Tsinyane said.

The three arrested on Monday would appear in court soon.

On Thursday, two men and two women were arrested at a scrap yard in Cullinan for possession of stolen copper cable.

The estimated value of the copper seized was R54,000.

The four appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate's Court. One of the men and one of the women were out on bail.
