Through thick & thin

Fake eyelashes, fake breasts, fake hair and blue contact lenses – add Botox and liposuction to that equation and . . . you have Khanyi Mbau.

Best known for scandals, expensive cars and rich men, this young lady has discovered, perhaps too late, that her adventurous past keeps haunting her.

In an attempt to prove to the world that she’s a new woman, she recently went as far having cosmetic surgery done by the well-known surgeon Dr Gordon Cohen.

“He’s the reason I’m as beautiful as I am,” says Khanyi, who has now had liposuction on her thighs and bottom, Botoxed her face and had her teeth fixed. But behind the Barbie facade is a mother, daughter and now, when we meet her at The Venue at Joburg’s Melrose Arch, a sister.

Clad in a tiny purple dress and sandals, the 26-year-old former actress, singer and self-proclaimed queen of bling shares jokes with her older sister, Thandeka Mcunu.

It’s the younger sister, though, who is full of advice. “This is how you sit on a make-up chair and this is how you should pose for the camera,” Khanyi says to Thandeka. And it’s true – although we’ve been seeing Khanyi and Thandeka club-hopping for some time, the latter is not quite in the limelight.

“We are opposites and fight over everything but we love and complement each other,” says the 27-year-old BCom graduate who co-owns an asset management company with Khanyi.
