Generations: The Legacy’s make-up artist Bongi Mlotshwa claims she quit the show due to the rudeness and disrespect of young actress Thulisile Phongolo

The twists and turns in the plot of one of the country’s favourite soaps are nothing compared to what often happens behind the scenes, it seems.

The most recent drama to play out backstage involved veteran make-up artist Bongi Mlotshwa (46) and a young actress fairly new to the industry, Thulisile Phongolo (22), who plays the popular character of Namhla Diale.

After 25 years in the industry, panelbeating the faces of some of Mzansi’s favourite personalities, Bongi resigned from her job as Head of Generations: The Legacy’s Hair and Make-Up Department, which she’s held since 2012.

DRUM has reliably learnt that the make-up guru didn’t leave so that she could enjoy some leisure time as the soap’s spin doctors would have us believe: she left the soap in April because life on set became unbearable.
