The Tshwane metro police suspended eight police officers who allegedly escorted and provided unofficial security to Gupta wedding guests from Waterkloof Air Force Base to Sun City.

According to reports from Sapa, the officers are suspended with pay and formal charges will be brought against the eight on Friday.

While eight police members have been served with suspension notices, there is still one officer whom hasn’t been served with his notice because he has been admitted into hospital.

"It was our considered view that it would not be prudent, nor humane to serve a person with a letter of notice to suspend him while he is in hospital," said executive director Console Tleane.

According to Sapa, the officers allegedly fitted blue lights and false number plates to their private vehicles to escort guests to the Gupta family wedding in Sun City.

This brings the number of civil servants involved and suspended for the GuptaGate to thirteen including a senior police officer, three air force officers, and the chief of state protocol who were suspended for their alleged part in the unauthorised landing of a Gupta family chartered jet at the Waterkloof military base.
