Two people were arrested on Tuesday morning for speeding on the N1 freeway in Midrand, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the man, 42, was taken into custody after he was caught driving his BMW at 206 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.

Minnaar said a 23-year-old woman was arrested when she was driving her Kia at 164 km/h on the same road.

They were released on R1500 bail each.

He said they would appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday, to face charges of speeding.
