The death of his mother a few years ago helped set filmmaker/actor Tyler Perry on a path to good health.

The Gone Girl star took to Facebook.com over the weekend (21-22Nov15) to show off his new physique and revealed he is close to his target weightloss goal.

"I'm 18 lbs (pounds) away from my goal," he wrote.

But Perry, who welcomed his first child a year ago (Nov14), admits the real challenge is keeping the weight off over the holidays: "I hope I don't blow it this holiday season. Gonna try to stay on it. It's hard as heck to lose weight after 40 (years old), but it's so worth it. It keeps the doctor away. Don't let anything keep you from being healthy and strong."

The star also reflected on his mother's death in 2009, explaining he wishes she would have worked harder on her health: "I wish my mother had fought back. She turned diabetic at 40 and died at 64. Don't let that be you!! Fight back!!"

Perry has undergone serious dietary restrictions before, as he had to train hardcore for his role in 2012 action film Alex Cross. To prepare for the part he exercised regularly and replaced calorific meals like pork chops and biscuits with items such as egg whites, smoothies, grilled chicken breast and turkey chili.
