R&B sensation Usher’s date with his fans in South Africa is closing in and so is the search for fresh talent to open up for him when he performs in Soweto at the Hansa Pilsener Festival of Legends on March 10.

Hundreds of hopefuls tried their luck and now it’s down to 12 finalists who will be reduced to six winners – one from each region.

“We have a really special group of performers here, all of whom have long careers in the South African music business ahead of them. And what better way to start than to open for Usher,” said judge and Talent Search Ambassador, Thabiso Khati.

The choice of the six winners is in the hands of the public who can vote for their favourite performers online, or via their mobiles by dialling *120*793#.

The finalists represent a diverse collection of sounds from the smooth jazz sounds, hip hop/rap, fusion of hip hop and afro pop and R&B and soul.

The top 12 finalists are:

•    BigSize & Mo Klaasik (Free State)

•    Abdus & Mhlathi (Eastern Cape)

•    Ma’pakshop & Shumi (Gauteng - Pretoria)

•    Mo & The Dark Knights &The Muffinz (Gauteng - Johannesburg)

•    Busi M & Nonku Phiri (Western Cape)

•    H-Zwegellus & Shoelace (Eastern Cape)

And to get to know more about these artists tune into on Metro FM’s The Secret Ingredient show between 12pm and 2pm daily. Voting closes on February 22. The six regional winners will be revealed on February 24.

One artist from each region will go on to open for Usher at the Hansa Pilsener Festival of Legends at Orlando Stadium on March 10.
