BONGANI SANDILE KHUMALO (23) Sport Soccer – plays centreback for SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana

Recently in the news for . . .

Clinching a deal to join Tottenham Hotspur in England during the 2011 transfer window for a whopping £1,5 million (around R16,5 m). On his move, the SuperSport United skipper says, “It’s not going to be a picnic but I’m looking forward to it.”

Where do you go on holiday?

Camps Bay, in Cape Town. I love the energy and hype of the city and its friendly people.

Do you have a habit you’d like to hide?

My friends tell me whenever I try to make a point while speaking, I hit them quite hard – even when I honestly intend to just lightly tap them on their backs.

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever said to you?

I was recently approached by a guy who thought I was from Chiefs. He congratulated me on beating SuperSport, but in fact I was on the losing side!

What’s your second favourite sport?

I guess it has to be sprinting. I used to be an athlete and specialised in the 200m while at Clapham High in Pretoria.

And the sport you’re hopeless at? Um, hockey. I think it’s just dangerous . . .

Other sport stars whom shared their secrets with us include Itumeleng Khune, Godfrey Khotso Mokoena, Branco Milenkovic and a few others. Read all about them in DRUM, 6 January 2011.
