The Red Cross recommends you follow this advice.

The Red Cross recommends you follow the so-called five-and-five approach:

Strike the person five times between the shoulder blades with the flat of your hand. Place your fist above their belly button.

Then press down forcefully five times.

This is also called Heimlich manoeuvre.

Alternate the five strikes to the back and the five abdominal presses until the blockage is dislodged.

You can also help a person’s whose windpipe is blocked be carefully removing any visible obstruction with your fingers.

Take care not to push the object further down the throat.
