When the weave is your cover-up

Here are some things you need to know about the dangers of this practice.

Weaves and wigs are just some of the many hairstyle options available to women. But what happens when the weaves and wigs are no longer an option, but a choice resorted to for the coverage of damaged hair?

  • Weaves can tug on the hair and hairline and cause inflammation of the root of the hair follicle.
  • When someone wears weave even when they see the damage to their hairline, the inflammation only worsens.
  • Tenderness is a sign that there is inflammation and possible infection.
  • Wigs are hot and directly attached to the scalp.
  • It can add to the low-grade bacterial infection of the hair and scalp.

If the hair has a health issue, the best option is to take the wig/weave off and address the source of the problem.
