Why you should drive dry this festive season

Why should anyone consider driving “dry” as they set off on their annual trip home or on holiday?

Simply because it can save your life and that of others. Sometimes people need to be shocked into changing their behaviour, and that is the aim of the Diageo Drive Dry campaign – on Twitter - @DriveDry and Facebook.com/DriveDry - that will run throughout next year.

The campaign aims to harness the power of storytelling to try and change behaviour. They use real stories, from real South Africans who have experienced very real loss, trauma, hurt and difficulty due to driving while under the influence – either themselves, a loved-one or by a stranger. You can find these on  #ThisIsMyStory.

According to the WHO Global Status Report for 2015, South Africa is ranked 23rd out of 50 African countries for the highest number of road deaths. At the end of last year’s festive season (2015/16) there were 1 755 fatalities.
