Wits’ Jayiya finds his PSL form

HE IS a 20-year-old about to play the biggest and most important match of his life – his debut in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Donning Bidvest Wits' colours for the first time, he emerges from the tunnel at Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria filled with panic as his eyes meet those of the men of current league champions SuperSport United lined up on the field...

The game begins and the nerves start to settle as instinct takes over and the diminutive winger finds himself in the penalty area, hovering. Just 15 minutes into the game, the ball is suddenly at his feet and, with no time to steady himself, he blasts a shot that bulges keeper Rowen Fernandez's net.Laduuuuma! The stadium erupts and with arms in the air Bhongolwethu Jayiya runs, screaming, to the touchline where he's buried under a pile of his teammates' bodies.

Eight minutes before half-time he connects with a Sifiso Myeni pass and finds the top left corner to give Wits a 2-0 lead. With those two goals Bhongolwethu announced his arrival in the Premiership and was voted PSL Player of the Month of February – in only his first month in top flight soccer...
