A 61-year-old woman, who allegedly shot her husband dead, is to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s court on Monday.

She allegedly had an argument with him in their Heiderand house late on Thursday night, said Southern Cape police spokesperson Bernadine Steyn.

“During the argument, the suspect allegedly took her .38 special revolver [that is licenced in her name] and shot her husband, 49-year-old Joachim du Plessis in the chest,” she said.

He died at the scene.

Their 25-year-old daughter, who was asleep upstairs, heard a gunshot and went to the bedroom, after which she alerted the neighbours.

Steyn said the woman was arrested at the scene.
