Once he was one of the most celebrated faces in Mzansi . . . before it all faded away

HE WAS Mzansi’s golden boy, the star every boy dreamed of being, every girl wanted to be with and every mother loved – a true brother. But fast forward six years and that image is a distant memory.

Bonginkosi Dlamini (36), better known as Zola, had it all.

With a flourishing music career, some high-profile acting jobs, his own TV show – Zola 7, a United Nations Children’s Fund Goodwill ambassadorship, his own shoe and clothing label, and a self-branded cell-phone starter pack – it seemed there was nothing he couldn’t do!

Zola was a massive, much-loved celebrity who at the height of his career was voted number one DRUM Darling for three years in a row by the public, but celebrity can be a fickle mistress and Zola never imagined his wave of popularity would crash so hard.
