Zuma saddened by passing of Pius Langa

Zuma has been saddened by the passing of former chief justice Pius Langa,the presidency said in a  statement.

“The country has lost one of its best legal minds, a dedicated Human Rights jurist and a veteran struggle activist

"On behalf of government and the people of South Africa, we wish to convey our deepest condolences. May his soul rest in peace," said Zuma in the statement.

Langa died at the age of 74 years.

In 1994 the former chief justice was appointed to the then newly-established Constitutional Court of South Africa as one of its first judges.

In 2001 he became deputy chief justice of South Africa, in June 2005 he was appointed chief justice, chairman of the Judicial Service Commission, and head of the Constitutional Court. Langa held the position until his retirement in October 2009.
