Aloha hawaiian hot dog

It’s winter and we’re dreaming of sunny skies and beaches so we’re traveling, in the kitchen that is, to warmer climes with this #JustDelicious Hawaiian-style hot dog, ideal for a picnic on a sunny SA winter’s day.


8 Eskort Chicken Viennas

oil for frying

4 continental rolls

butter for rolls

1 can pineapple pieces, drained

1 small red onion, finely diced

1 small red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped

1 avocado, in small cubes

a few mint leaves, chopped

10ml lemon juice

salt and freshly ground black pepper


  • Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the viennas until cooked. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  • Slice the rolls open and butter both halves.
  • In a large bowl, mix the pineapple pieces, onion, chilli, avocado, mint and lemon juice to make a salsa.
  • Season with salt and pepper and toss to combine.
  • Assemble hot dogs with 1 or 2 viennas and a generous dollop of the pineapple salsa.
  • For a picnic, you can keep the rolls, viennas and salsa in separate sealed containers and assemble just before eating.
