Oven-baked cheesy Russian roll with chilli con carne

Spicy yet satisfying, this tasty Russian roll is filled to the brim with a fiesta of #JustDelicious flavours.


Chilli con carne

45ml (3T) olive oil

1 red onion, chopped

1 red pepper, chopped

1 red chilli, chopped

1 tin (410g) red kidney beans

250ml (1c) hearty tomato sauce

2,5ml (½t) salt

2,5ml (½t) pepper

Russian roll

6 large hot dog buns

500g Eskort Cheese Russians

500ml (2c) mozzarella cheese, grated

250ml (1c) hearty tomato sauce

To serve

125ml (½c) spring onions, chopped



  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.

Chilli con carne

  • Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over high heat.
  • Fry the red onion, red pepper and chilli until the onion is glossy.
  • Add the kidney beans, tomato sauce, salt and pepper and stir well, then remove from the heat.

Russian roll

  • Slice open each hot dog bun from the top, but not all the way through.
  • Add a Russian sausage to each bun then top with the chilli con carne and mozzarella.
  • Bake in the oven until the cheese is melted and golden brown.

To serve

  • Garnish with chopped spring onion and serve.

  • Eskort Cheese Russians (contains soya, dairy and gluten): Slice Eskort Smoked Pork Neck Steaks into strips, season with salt and pepper, and fry in olive oil until cooked. Use as a substitute for the Russian sausages.

  • Mozzarella cheese (contains dairy): Use dairy-free cheddar-flavoured cheese.
