Maimane: DA holding its own in Gauteng

2014-05-08 19:28

Pretoria - The DA is “feeling good” about its performance in Gauteng, says the party’s premier candidate Mmusi Maimane.

“We held our own up until now, and we have to wait and see what happens,” he told News24 at the IEC’s national results operations centre in Pretoria on Thursday.

“We are still feeling good.”

Early on Thursday evening, the DA had just over 500 000 votes in Gauteng, while the ANC led with 780 000 votes. The EFF followed the DA with 124 000 votes.

However, only about a third of votes in the province had been counted, due to the large number of votes cast in the province.

“The story about Gauteng is about growth, it’s a story about whether we put the ANC just below 50% or just above 50%. When I reflect on the scoreboard now I can see that its getting closer and closer. Our big areas are still coming in,” Maimane said.
