Cyril Ramaphosa in Stellenbosch ( Jenni Evans, News24 )
Paarl - ANC deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa has blamed
people determined to sink South Africa's democracy for recent political
killings.
"We can't have our democracy derailed by people who are
bent on weakening the ANC," he told media after a mini-rally in Paarl in
the Western Cape.
"A slaughterhouse has been opened here," he said
on Thursday, while campaigning ahead of local government elections next week.
He urged the police to get to the bottom of the killings and
arrest those responsible.
Police Minister Nathi Nhleko on Wednesday said 14 people had
been arrested for politically-motivated murders countrywide – the majority in
KwaZulu-Natal.
A parliamentary task team has been probing the killings, the
most recent being that of an ANC ward councillor in Port Elizabeth, who was
shot dead on Tuesday evening.
