Durban - The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has suspended all its weekend programmes to pay tribute to two of its members who died recently, the party said on Thursday.

Provincial legislature chief whip Senzo Mkhize died on Friday after a long illness. ANCYL deputy chairperson in eMalahleni, Wandile "Manqasha" Ngubeni, was shot dead on Sunday, the party said.

Ntuli said they had postponed the release of its local government election manifesto, in Newcastle on Sunday.

"We know they would have loved to see us continue with our programmes, but as a caring people’s movement guided by principles of ubuntu, we have seen it fit to call off all our weekend programmes," ANC provincial secretary Super Zuma said.

Provincial spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli said Mkhize and Ngubeni had dedicated their lives to the organisation.

Mkhize’s memorial service was expected to be held at the Durban City Hall on Thursday and his funeral at the Dr JL Dube Stadium in Inanda on Saturday.

Ngubeni’s memorial service was expected to be held at the Majuba Tvet College-S2 on Thursday and his funeral at the same venue on Sunday.
