Johannesburg - There was a strong police presence in Kapok, near Ennerdale on Saturday where some community members had threatened to disrupt the second round of voter registration.

Earlier in the morning, roads leading into the area had been closed off with burning tyres and rocks.

A group of youngsters sang in the roads close to some burning tyres.

Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said police had been deployed to the area and they had cleared the road of the burning debris to allow the IEC to come through and set up.

"The IEC tent has now been erected and the officials are waiting for people to come and register," Dlamini said.

Protestors disrupted the first round of the voter registrations several weeks ago, calling for better service delivery and the removal of the local councillor.
