Durban – The DA in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday welcomed new members who will stand as candidates in the upcoming municipal elections.
Rajendraprasath Maharaj and Ganas Govender from the Minority Front, Thabani Mthethwa and Sophie Buthelezi from the National Freedom Party, Khanyisile Shabalala and Christo Botha from the Inkatha Freedom Party and Elliot Xaba were all revealed by DA KZN leader Zwakele Mncwango.
Mncwango said with just a few weeks until the August 3 elections, he was proud to see how much the DA had grown in the province.
"The reception in the communities, both urban and rural, [that] we have visited has been phenomenal. This alone is an indication of how our people thirst for change, how our people thirst for service delivery and how people thirst for an integrated, innovative and involved government."
He said the party's candidate list was an example of the diversity the party prided itself on.
"Our candidates have risen to the challenge to deliver change in communities that are poverty stricken and corruption ridden. They have also risen to the challenge of sustainability in communities that are more fortunate than others."
He said the new candidates were committed to stopping corruption, creating jobs and delivering better services.
"The communities have spoken and made their nominations accordingly. We now wait for August 3, 2016 where the people carve in the ballot their desires for their communities.
"Let us use this year's elections as the yard stick for the development and prospects we would love to be recipients of. Change will indeed come through the ballot, not the bullet," said Mncwango.
