Johannesburg - Democratic Alliance mayoral candidate for Ekurhuleni, Ghaleb Cachalia, is planning to take the fight for the city to key African National Congress wards, he told journalists on Wednesday.

"We have identified key battle wards in each community which will allow us to take the Metro. By doing so, we end rampant corruption that stalls the hope of job creation."

Confident of a DA win, Cachalia said it would blitz every ward in each community in the last days of electioneering.

"We know exactly which communities are most likely to change their votes and deliver a result on election day that will put an end to a one party dominance," he said.

Ghaleb said there were 20 wards they had identified in areas such as Tembisa, Vosloorus, Tsakane and Daveyton. ‎

He said the DA planned to campaign fiercely in those wards, with community meetings, loud hailers and phone calls.

"We will defeat the ANC through this focus campaign... These are our people. People who wake up every day with no running water and basic service."
