Port Elizabeth – Less than a third of registered voters had cast their votes at Port Elizabeth's City Hall shortly before closing time on Wednesday.

The voting station had more than 3 360 registered voters, but by 18:45 only around a 1 000 had cast their votes, IEC presiding officer Nomsa Mpise said.

Ten people strolled in shortly before the 19:00 closing time. Mpise said it had been like that the whole day.

"It's mostly been quiet, then you find people coming in groups as friends."
