The IRR’s Election Polls

This week on POLOTIKI, it’s the final big push for political parties ahead of the national elections and the numbers are taking centre stage.

The Gauteng ANC has released its latest internal research, which indicates it winning 56% of the provincial vote. While IPSOS and the Institute of Race Relations have also weighed in.

The latest polling numbers by the IRR have delivered a bombshell, with the think-tank's research showing the governing party could be in danger of losing its outright majority.

News24's elections analyst Dawie Scholtz says the ANC should be worried about what could happen next week when South Africans go to the polls, but that, ultimately, voting patterns remain very difficult to predict.

Ipsos and MarkData believe the ANC could end up with between with 59% and 61%.

News24 associate editor for in-depth news Pieter du Toit doesn’t think the ANC will reach the numbers that it is used to getting. "What will the punishment for state capture be?" he asks.
