Minki to get divorced

2009-11-03 09:26

Cape Town - Model Minki van der Westhuizen and her husband, Constant Visser, are to divorce.

Her publicist, Andrew Farr, confirmed on Monday that the couple had "recently" decided to get divorced.

"It is very friendly. But they don't want to talk about it," Farr told Die Burger. The couple married in October 2007.

The restaurant The Library in Stellenbosch, which Van der Westhuizen and Visser began together, closed down earlier this year.

They also made the news earlier this year as one of the glamour couples who took part in an awareness campaign against domestic violence by appearing naked in the February issue of the Marie Claire magazine.

"Our relationship is based on good morals, but not everyone wants to see us happy. We are continuously hearing rumours that we are about to get divorced," Van der Westhuizen said then.

Farr said Van der Westhuizen didn't want to personally comment on the planned divorce proceedings.

Visser couldn't be reached for comment.

Grrrrrr Minki .... i think she wants me.

  • marian van der walt - 2009-11-03 09:33

    it is very sad

  • realistic - 2009-11-03 09:39

Not sure what's so sad about it? Her hubby must be elated...imaging living with that used up old crumpet.

  • Whackhead - 2009-11-03 09:41

    What have I done!

  • SUNSHINE - 2009-11-03 09:41

i thought they were a very cute couple. well i dont no why they wanna get divorced, but its not the way to go. they should sort out their difference ,because they made a promise before GOD that they'll stay together till death do them part

  • Gash - 2009-11-03 09:42

Oh Minki, I'll do anything you ask, yes that too...

  • Erika - 2009-11-03 09:50

Sad but I knew it wouldn't last.

  • Me - 2009-11-03 09:52

another one hey Minki, just dont know what you want do you

The "How Much Can We Sell Our Wedding For?" curse strikes again...

  • Wishful Thinker - 2009-11-03 09:58

I'm sure she'll be happy with me.

  • @ Sunshine - 2009-11-03 09:59

Oh get a life. Not everyone has your religeous fundamentalist views. So Sunshine, what must they do in your books, roll up in a ball and die if they are not happy instead of divorcing (till death do us part as you say?) Sad to hear this anyway, they are both nice people but there was obviously a divide they couldn't cross. What is meant to be is meant to be, both my wife and I come from a previous divorce and if we handn't split from our partners then we would not have found each other. It will be a difficult time for Minki and Constant but it looks like their paths are meant to seperate.

Aah, the stunning example set by the rich and famous. Good looks and money does not equal good person. Joost, Minki, 95% of Hollywood do not set any example and yet we fuel their lifestyles by buying the magazines with them on the cover and insisting that the good looking, slightly unintelligent MUST present our talk shows on TV. They don't care about any promise before anyone.

  • Charlene - 2009-11-03 10:04

Just the other day the cute couple was on Top Billing, what is going on, divorce, divorce, after only 2 years, oh no, why getting married in the first place?

  • Ross - 2009-11-03 10:07

aaah sweet she is single now its my turn

  • Cat - 2009-11-03 10:17

Well done! now you just proved everyone right!

  • Stirrer - 2009-11-03 10:23

Jaaaa neee, a womans place is in the kitchen, none of this women with money as happy.

  • Alfred - 2009-11-03 10:23

The first sign of money problems , and the woman moves on to greener pastures. Not surprised at all.

  • Dali - 2009-11-03 10:27

She only married that guy coz he had cash anyway so nothing suprising here .

  • LLG - 2009-11-03 10:27

Constant you much better off without her anyway. i just think see is too full of her self cause she is a model. Don't like Minki at all.

  • AZB - 2009-11-03 10:33

Anonymous at 9:59; your attack on sunshine stinks, who are you tell her to get a life? How lame to say what is meant to be. Maybe you should broaden your mind. No couple should just divorce, they must fight to keep the marriage together.

  • Uncle Bob - 2009-11-03 10:34

Married for only two years! - so much for better and for worse! Seriously, why did you ever bother getting married in the first place?

  • Realist - 2009-11-03 10:37

Marrying a model is a curse.

  • Point Blank@Sunshine - 2009-11-03 10:39

Wedding vows are rarely adhered to, it's just about going through the motions these days and besides if you cannot spend the rest of your life with someone then why do it? Move on and allow both parties to find happiness and love. I'm sure God would understand.

  • Green skin - 2009-11-03 10:40

As the song goes...'if you wanna be happy the rest of your life never make a pretty woman your wife..."

  • etienne - 2009-11-03 10:42

yes, i clearly remember the fluttering-of-eyelids presentation of this "match made in heaven" marriage on that pretentious, overgouged TOP BILLING charade (i was forced to watch)...i wonder, will the airheads at TB now give us the divorce proceedings in gloriously veneered lustre as well...come on TB, be brave...produce something that matters

  • pompelap - 2009-11-03 10:46

Shame its sad to see them split up, there is usually a good explanation, money, romance, respect, careers and all those things can get in the way, so its as if they faked the whole happy family thing the other day on Pasella programme? They looked happy on the outside, but we don't know what goes on when there is no cameras, catwalks, paparazzi and make-up, ? so if they stay friends afterward it will be just okay. And for the rest who think they are next or give bad wish!

  • POST MY COMMENTS PLEASE - 2009-11-03 10:51

She is not even married that long! Do people take marriage serious these days?

  • Niel - 2009-11-03 10:53

I think it was the age difference...

  • thirdworld child - 2009-11-03 10:53

What's the bet the next one to get divorced is Christi Nel lol.

  • Kman - 2009-11-03 10:54

Marriage is a covenant, involving a vow to love, honour and obey the partner. when this is no longer possible, or desired, then the covenant is broken. Marriage, as an institution is not the end state, it is the covenant itself. Maybe they will bring happiness to other people now. I know Whackhead Simpson is smiling somewhere in his dinghy studio!!

  • Wern - 2009-11-03 10:54

It sounds like the most of the people here like the idea of her getting a divorce. What's wrong with you? A divorce is never a thing someone wants to do, but sometimes you have no choice, even if it is very hard. All I can say to Minkie and Constant is good luck and know where your strength comes from.

  • Wasup - 2009-11-03 10:56

Constant getting bliksemed by a student 3am in the morning in De Akker a pub in Stellenbosch, did it for me! You go Minki

  • Gerhard - 2009-11-03 10:58

Time to get in shape... she's back into the playing field!

  • henry - 2009-11-03 10:58

You can move in with me Minky!

  • cape velvet - 2009-11-03 11:03

2009 - definitely not the year for SA celebs! How the mighty have fallen...

  • pi - 2009-11-03 11:06

The words, "loslappie" springs to mind... I don't know why...

  • Scorpio - 2009-11-03 11:08

Well...I think the moment you go on Top Billing and tell the whole world you've found you soul mate (neva use this word) you are doomed it seems - Danny K & Lee-Anne, Minki & Constant, Louise Carver & Mike Joubert...sad.

  • Plaasjaap - 2009-11-03 11:10

Minki reply to this message if you want my number.

  • China Doll - 2009-11-03 11:11

Eish!!! Another one bites the dust.

  • Say what... - 2009-11-03 11:11

When that man upstairs was dishing out stuff to make humans Minki obviously hung around in the "good looks" queue for a long time, which makes you wonder which ones she skipped?

  • Amanda - 2009-11-03 11:13

Just another south african ''hollywood story''. Whose next Minki?

  • Greame Smith - 2009-11-03 11:13

I just want to deny the rumours that it's because I'm still having contact with Minki that led to the divorce. I'm far too busy preparing meals to be able to send smses as well. I'm a man I can't multi task.

  • Fred - 2009-11-03 11:13

Ag shame Minxy, must have been really unpleasant for both of them. I wish them both well.

  • Plaasjaap - 2009-11-03 11:15

Minki, I don't care that you don't read or watch the news and that your idea of culture is a Hannah Montana concert. That's fine by me. Just keep going to the beautician, eat your veggies and spend all morning in the gym. That's all you need to do. We don't even have to talk.

  • Loslappie - 2009-11-03 11:17

No celeb can ever have a successful marriage. The high life when they were single makes marriage boring and dull.

  • Toothfairy - 2009-11-03 11:19

That didn't last long. Funny how these divorces are all "friendly" and "no hard feelings" and we still love each other bla bla bla ..Ja? then why are you getting divorced then?? Lie and deny ..just be honest for heavens sake, I'll sure we will all understand.

  • cj - 2009-11-03 11:24

    Why am I not surprised?

  • DIBS! - 2009-11-03 11:26

Finnnnnnaaaaaallllllyyyy!!! It's my turn now! the 1st place what kind of name is "constant" for a man?? Constant Visser (Because he is always constantly FISHING! Get it?? :D , constant floppy, constant irritation.....etc

  • @sunshine - 2009-11-03 11:29

So sunshine they made a promise to an imaginary friend. Woopidee dooo. Get over your religious crap.
