Koos Bekker to stay on at Naspers

Cape Town - The CEO of Naspers Limited [JSE:NPN], Koos Bekker, has agreed to extend his term until the end of March 2014.

Bekker's term was to have expired on March 31 2013.

Naspers chairperson Ton Vosloo announced at the group's annual general meeting in Cape Town on Friday that Bekker is to stay on for a further year, "to create sufficient space for succession planning".

Vosloo said: "In June it was with great sadness that Naspers announced the passing of Antonie Roux, CEO of our internet businesses.

"Antonie played a major role in Naspers’s international expansion and growth of its internet businesses. Not only did his family and friends lose a wonderful person – we have also lost an important successor in the Naspers group."

The late Roux started his career at Naspers 33 years ago as a junior technician and advanced through a number of management positions in various countries over the years.

In 1997 he became the founding head of MWEB. In 2002 he was appointed CEO of Naspers' internet operations and from April 2011 he was CEO of MIH.

"The 5-year term of ... Bekker will have expired at the end of March next year. So as to create sufficient space for succession planning, he has agreed to stay on until the end of March 2014," Vosloo said.

Naspers shares changed hands at R483.82 in late trade on Friday, up R1.08 from the previous day.
