MTN group CFO Brett Goschen quits

Johannesburg - Africa’s biggest mobile network by subscribers, MTN, says its chief financial officer Brett Goschen is leaving the company after 14 years’ service.

MTN, in a statement to shareholders on Monday, said that Goschen will be leaving on September 30 2016 to “pursue other interests”.

He will also be resigning from the MTN Group board of directors as an executive director on the same day.

Goschen left his post as managing director for Altech Autopage Cellular in 2002 to take up the chief financial officer role at MTN Nigeria, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Goschen then went on to become chief executive officer at MTN Ghana in 2006. Boscher was then chief executive officer at MTN Nigeria from 2011 until 2013.

He then became MTN’s group chief financial officer from August 2013.

The current CEO of MTN Rwanda, Gunter Engling, will assume the position of acting group CFO until a permanent CFO is hired, said MTN.

The resignation of Goschen comes amid other executive changes at MTN as the company said that it has hired former Barclays Africa Group’s head of investment banking, Stephen Van Coller, as vice president of strategy and mergers and acquisitions.

Last month, MTN also announced that Rob Shuter, a South African national who is the current CEO of the European Cluster at Vodafone Group, is set to become MTN Group’s CEO in 2017.

MTN is Africa's biggest mobile network with over 200 million subscribers across the region.
