Samsung sends Note 7 owners 'flameproof' boxes

Johannesburg - Pyromaniacs won’t get a rush from sending back their Note 7s after Samsung has issued a fireproof box to return the controversial device in.

The Note 7 has been marred by reports of exploding batteries. The devices, which are prone to bursting into flames, are currently still in possession by thousands across the US and Asia.

Reports have since emerged that the company has issued fireproof return kits for customers.

The kits are believed to include three boxes and a static shield bag. The outside of the box is lined with a special paper capable of handling extreme heat.

The device is also only allowed to be returned via land or sea and not by aircraft.

Android YouTube channel, XDA-Developers, uploaded a clip detailing how the device is returned.

Shortly after Samsung did a global recall of the device, the company announced that they would kill production of the Note 7 on Wednesday.

Samsung South Africa earlier told Fin24: "For the benefit of consumers' safety, we stopped sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 and have consequently decided to stop production."

Bloomberg reported that Samsung shares fell 8% on Tuesday, wiping out about $17bn of market value.

The company originally introduced the Note 7 in August and then recalled the initial shipment of 2.5 million phones after a spate of battery fires.
