Cape Town - Employees at Kusasalethu gold mine near Carletonville in Gauteng have returned to work after a wildcat strike, Harmony Gold said on Tuesday.
The unprotected stay away started on Friday in response to the axing if six employees, who were members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union’s (AMCU) branch leadership at the mine.
In a statement Harmony said employees returned to work for their Monday evening shifts.
“For Kusasalethu to be profitable, discipline has to be restored and focus needs to remain on safety and productivity. We call on all unions’ leadership and employees to accept this shared responsibility,” said Peter Steenkamp, CEO of Harmony in a statement.
Harmony said the dismissal of the six AMCU members remained intact.
