Johannesburg - A giraffe which got stuck in a man-made watering hole in the Kruger National Park on Saturday, most probably drowned, Netwerk24 reported.

People watching a direct feed from the webcam set up outside Orpen, saw how the giraffe fell into the watering hole and repeatedly tried to get out.

The time stamp on one of the screengrabs indicated that the giraffe was already in the watering hole by 15:49.

By 16:12, people could see how the giraffe's head was under the water and how it tried to kick with its one leg.

According to the timeframe, the animal was dead by 17:04.

Personnel arrived at the watering hole shortly before 18:00, and by 19:10 it shows one of the men standing close to the dead animal, holding something that appears to be a rope.

It is unclear whether they tried to drag the animal out of the water.

Lesley Nyawo from SANPark's communication department on Saturday wrote on their Facebook page that the giraffe died while field rangers were busy in another part of the park, following up on a possible attempt of rhino poaching.
