Mbombela - The suspension of a lawyer has led to a rhino poaching case against an SA National Defence Force (SANDF) member being postponed to June.

Leonard Mashego, 53, appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court alongside his co-accused Michael Sithole, 50, on Monday, a Sapa correspondent reported.

Rangers arrested the two in the Kruger National Park in Skukuza in September 2010. They were allegedly found in possession of two rhino horns, two firearms, and ammunition.

They face 23 counts of illegal hunting, theft, trespassing and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

Prosecutor Isbet Erwee told the court the two accused's lawyer asked for a longer postponement because of an internal matter at his legal practice and the Law Society of SA.

"The State and defence have agreed for the trial to continue later in June and there are witnesses who would testify in the case," Erwee said.

Magistrate Andre Geldenhuys postponed the case to 23 June.

Mashego and Sithole are out on bail.
