Cape Town – A photographer in Botswana, on a game drive, captured a lioness’s interaction with a baby baboon that is sure to lift your spirits.

Photographer Evan Schiller and Lisa Holzwarth noticed a group of lions attacking a family of baboons.

One of the lions staked and captured a mother baboon without realising that a tiny baby was still attached to the body.

The lioness killed the mother baboon and then noticed the baby trying to run away.

Intrigued by the new thing, the lion followed the baby and gently probed to determine what the animal was.

The baby baboon showed signs of fatigue, but instead of killing the infant, the lioness picked up the baboon with its mouth and took it to a safe place.

The baby responded and even started to hold the lioness’s chest, trying to suckle.

When two male lions approached the lioness and became aggressive and defended the baby.

Unbeknownst to the lioness a male baboon was watching the entire ordeal play out and when he saw the infant was alone climbed down from his tree and rescued the baby from harms way.
