Pietermaritzburg - Former Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela was fined R30 000 and forfeited his hunting rifle after pleading guilty in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on Thursday, to six counts of illegal hunting.

Polela was found guilty of hunting a protected reedbuck without a licence, doing so out of hunting season; hunting a grey duiker without a permit, doing so outside of hunting season; hunting with an illegal, artificial light, and hunting between sunset and sunrise.

The reedbuck was on the critically endangered list.
