Cape Town – A Canadian man has been arrested for using a local classified site to methodically abuse and kill pets.

According to the Huffington Post,  investigators in Calgary said that the man would abuse the animals and then dump their bodies in abandoned alleyways.

He would also tie their mouths shut with tape.

Investigations by the Humane Society began on 9 January when a dog was found with its mouth taped shut, the dog had been starved.

That same week a cat was also found in an alley with green tape used to cover almost all of its face.

The cat was strangled and a vet discovered serious injuries to its head and hind limbs.

Brad Nichols, a manager at the Humane Society, believes that this type of treatment was the direct result of cruelty rather than a loss of temper.

He said that the treatment was methodical and contributed directly to the death of the animals.

Nicolino Ivano Camardi, aged 19 was arrested at his family’s home.

He has been charged with causing unnecessary pain, suffering and injury to an animal.

It is believed that Camardi obtained the pets through a Canadian classified site called Kijiji.

If found guilty Camardi could face an 18 month prison sentence.
