Cape Town – The theft of R160m worth of rhino horns stolen from Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency  in Mataffin, Mbombela, was linked to a crime syndicate, the Hawks reportedly said.

The SABC reported on Tuesday that close to 40 rhino horns were stolen over the weekend.

Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaoloko said the thieves managed to break-in to two large safes.

He said their investigation linked the crime to a syndicate organisation in Mbombela.

No arrests have been made.

The horns were allegedly kept at the agency for security reasons.
