Johannesburg - Three people appeared in the Ladismith Magistrate's Court for the alleged possession of perlemoen estimated to be worth around R331 000, Western Cape police said on Tuesday.

The case against Eugene Jacobs, 26, Shaun Eksteen, 31, and Jacobus McClaren, 57, was postponed to Monday for a bail application, said police spokesperson Bernadine Steyn.

On Wednesday, 10 plastic bags containing 1 986 shucked perlemoen were found during a roadblock in a Golf that two of the men were travelling in.

"A red Volkswagen Golf with two occupants was stopped and members received information that a white Tata bakkie, that was allegedly travelling with the Golf, turned back in the direction of Barrydale," said Steyn.

"The two vehicles were travelling from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth," said Steyn.

Police patrolling the area, managed to stop the bakkie in the Vanwyksdorp area.

McClaren, who was driving the bakkie, was arrested at the scene.
