Cape Town – The only rhino to survive a brazen attack on Saturday at the Tala Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal went missing for two days, placing wildlife authorities on edge.

The female white rhino and two other rhino had been attacked by poachers; she had been darted and her horn was removed with precision over the weekend.

The two other rhino unfortunately did not survive.

Tala authorities were able to save the animal, treat her and released her back into the wild.

Authorities in the park said that the female would be monitored but were at a loss when they could not locate the rhino for 48 hours.

She was finally tracked down late on Tuesday after a rigorous ground and air search.

Divan Vermaak, head ranger at Tala reserve said that they found the wounded rhino hiding in thick bush.

According to Vermaak the animal looked lively and was not approached because she was still under a serious amount of stress.

A vet will examine her again on Wednesday.

According to a report by the Witness, police are still following leads and no arrests have been made as yet.
