WATCH: Tragic end to multiple mass whale strandings in New Zealand

2018-11-28 10:23

Initially, 10 whales got stranded on Ninety Mile Beach on the North Island.

Two whales died before they could be rescued, two more rebeached themselves, but it was a more tragic story for 145 pilot whales at the other end of the country.

About 75 whales were already dead by the time rescuers arrived.

The rest had to be euthanised due to their poor condition, despite rescuers' best efforts.
