Cape Town – Emile Hirsch has taken over a role voiced by close friend Anton Yelchin following his death.

The actor voice’s the character Jim Lake Jr. in the third season of the Netflix show Trollhunters.

Yelchin died when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee pinned him against a concrete mailbox at his house in Los Angeles on 19 June, 2016.

Alongside a photo of Anton on Instagram Hirsch wrote: “This is super personal for me. After my friend and fellow actor Anton Yelchin tragically passed away far before his time a couple years ago, the creators of the Netflix show Trollhunters approached me about taking over what had been Anton's the role of voicing Jim Lake Jr. It was important to them to have someone play Jim who was connected to Anton.

“Anton had completed the first two seasons and a couple episodes of the third. It was a surreal and moving experience for me to inhabit this role and an honour to do my best to fill those shoes.”
