MERMAIDS

"On the last day of our visit to the Klein Karoo, we decided to head to Meiringspoort Waterfall before turning back and heading home," writes Wheels24’s Charlen Raymond on his pre-lockdown adventure in the Renault Kwid Climber.

"What a sight! The sound of the waterfall is almost deafening, water bouncing off rocks and calling you closer. The water is ice cold, so if you decide to take a dip, be ready to have the sound of your clapping kneecaps echo off the mountainous walls!"

He adds: "There's also a story going around that, at Meiringspoort Waterfall, there's a mermaid. And that she's beautiful..."

KINGS

It’s called the king of hobbies and the hobby of kings. Colin Bousfield, president of the Edenvale Philatelic Society, talks to Parent24 about the hidden world of stamp collecting.

"This is a very active hobby and includes many famous collectors such as Freddy Mercury (his collection is now owned by the British postal museum), President Roosevelt and Queen Elizabeth II (she owns one of the most valuable collections in the world). It is also one of the world’s most active investment vehicles for tangible assets and holds the record of the most expensive item by weight."

AN ARTIST BLOOMING

"To ward off boredom and keep herself busy during lockdown, multimedia artist DuduBloom More has been cutting circles out of tiny scraps of paper to see if she can turn them into art pieces.

"Stuck in her room at home in Orlando Gardens, Soweto, she first cuts out the little circles out of red and black paper before pasting them onto each other, and then using thread to make circles around them.

"The colours represent the shift in her mood from the darkness and uncertainty of self-isolation to the fiery passion with which she wants to be back in studio," writes Neo Maditla for Arts24.
