Here are 4 things you may not know about her :

  1. The 800m race isn’t her favourite

We all assumed that Semenya’s favourite race is the 800m as this is what she normally runs and where she won most of her medals. She told the Guardian, she prefers the 1500m race because it gives her the ability to sit back and relax during the race.

  1. She idolizes track and field athlete Maria Mutola from Mozambique

Semenya ‘s idol is Maria Mutola, a three-time 800m world champion. Caster relates to her idol because they both love soccer, with Mutola switching to soccer after retiring and Semenya starting playing soccer before becoming a runner.

  1. She got married last year

Caster married her longtime girlfriend, Violet Raseboya,  the couple exchanged vows in a traditional wedding ceremony in GA- Dikgale, a village in Limpopo.

  1. She went gender testing

Semenya was subject to gender testing after she won the World Championship in 2009. She had to stay away from any competition until July 6th, 2010. The negative issue surrounding Semenya was cleared so that IAAF let her follow the competition again.
