Everyday your skin is exposed to elements such as the weather, air pollution, bacteria, dirt, and excess oil that can cause skin impurities which coupled with our stressful lifestyle can leave your skin dull and uneven. But when oily pores get infected with germs, the problem can become even worse; causing swelling and redness.

Here are a few tips to help you unlock your natural glow and keep your skin healthy:

  1. Cleanse properly

Over stimulating your face can also cause breakouts. The best way to cleanse your face is to wet your face with lukewarm water and use your fingertips to apply a hygiene soap like, Dettol Even Tone Hygiene Soap. Avoid scrubbing as this will irritate the skin. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft towel. Dettol Even Tone Hygiene Soap, a winner in the 2015 Product of the Year soap category, removes 99.9% of germs and is formulated to eliminate excess oil and dirt, helping to reduce the appearance of blemishes. Research shows that 9/10 women agree that Dettol Even Tone gives them healthy feeling even tone skin.

  1. Lather on the sun screen

Our beautiful sunny South African skies make the perfect backdrop for the memories of our youth but don’t forget to lather up with sun screen to protect your skin from harmful rays. According to the Cancer Association of South Africa, at least 80% of sun-induced skin damage occurs before the age of 18 and only manifests later in life.

  1. Keep hydrated

Skin is an organ that is made up of cells, which are in turn made up of water. If your skin does not get the correct amount of water your skin becomes dry, tight and flaky. When skin is hydrated and plump it is less prone to irritations and blemishes. Add a few slices of your favourite fruit for a bit of variety.

  1. Hands off the face

As you go about your day you touch things that you are sometimes not even aware of, spreading germs which can be eliminated by washing your hands with a hygiene soap. Touching your face with unclean hands can not only increase the risk of impurities but cause sickness as well due to the spread of germs. Picking at your face can also spread infection and cause unsightly dark spots.

  1. Housekeeping

How often do you wash your make up brushes, disinfect your mobile phone or change your sheets? These small changes can do a world of good for your skin and health. Make up brushes collect dead skin cells, bacteria, and oil which can cause breakouts. Make up brushes should be cleaned at least once a month, whereas your mobile phone should be wiped down at least once a day.
