A 54-year-old woman from the Outapi region of Namibia is set to undergo police investigation after she allegedly raped a 16-year-old boy, The Namibian has reported.

The woman, who has not yet been arrested in connection with the crime, was reportedly not related to the boy, although they lived in the same village.

The incident allegedly took place at the woman's house, where the suspect reportedly used sticks to assault the teenager and forced him to engage with her in sexual intercourse.

Edwin Kanguatjivi, police spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner, confirmed the incident.

Rape remains among the highest ranking crimes in Namibia, with a previous report by The Namibian indicating that it was the most prevalent crime in the country between April and September 2013.

In addition, a UNAIDS report also indicated that an approximate 1 075 rape cases had been reported each year between 2009 and 2012, with the number believed to be much higher due to a large number of cases going unreported in the country.
