93 new year's babies born in Gauteng

Ninety-three new year's babies were born in 14 Gauteng hospitals between midnight and 15:00 on Wednesday, the provincial health department said.

There were 51 girls and 42 boys, spokesperson Lesemang Matuka said in a statement.

The first baby was born at 00:25 at Kopanong Hospital. Three babies were born at this hospital.

Sixteen babies were born at Tembisa Hospital, and 12 at Mamelodi Hospital. They included two sets of twins.

Fourteen babies were delivered at Natalspruit Hospital, 11 at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, seven at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, eight at the Far East Rand Hospital, six at Kalafong Hospital, six at the Far East Rand Hospital, and five at the Bertha Gxowa Hospital.
