For many reasons thousands of South African children find themselves alone and vulnerable in the streets. But in Soshanguve there is not only a home for them but a mother too

SITTING in a church conference in 2003, Nelly Matjeke could not stop thinking about how she could give back to her community. “We have all been so blessed with health, warm homes and able children but we don’t thank God often enough. We don’t show our appreciation. The best way I know to thank God is to represent him well on earth and follow what He has destined me to do. I've always been called to be a mother,” she says.
