Annual Book Drive launch by Refiloe Mpakanyane

Metro FM News-Reader and Touch Down afternoon drive co-host Refiloe Mpakanyane launches annual book drive and supports Nal’iBali storytelling initiative 2015. In its second year, the book drive will be on Thursday 04 September 2015 in collaboration with McDonalds and the South African National Book Week. This year’s focus is on four schools and a crèche in the East Rand/Ekurhuleni.

Refiloe says: “I am passionate about books and reading. Life cannot be complete without books. I want to contribute to the great work that SA National Books and others are doing revive the passion for books and literature within young people of East Rand. This small but dynamic metro has played such an interesting role during the struggle and really is so often overlooked.”

Book ambassadors, a toy library, poetry and hip hop performers as well as the books to be handed over to the beneficiaries will be inside the SA National Book Week bus that will arrive at the East Rand Value Mall McDonalds at 11:00.

The activities of the day include:

  • Storytelling for toddlers
  • Hip hop performances
  • Poetry performance
  • A spellathon
  • A talk by patron; Refiloe Mpakanyane who will be giving a keynote speech and outlining the future of the book drive going forward
  • Books drop-off Days: 17th and 18th September at 2 beneficiary schools each day
  • There will also be a free On-site eye testing mobile lab on each day at a visited beneficiary school. Learners will have their eyes tested, have lenses cut and installed in frames on site; courtesy of Nissan
